Betrothed

My heartbeat,

soft as rainclouds,

hard as diamonds,

found me
one summer day

in a hemp swing Daddy made.

He whispered my name

like breezes on shady grass

and sat with me there.
He told me he could throw

lightning to the earth

or make the moon

hide her face

if he wanted,
that he was king

over a far country

and that one day

when I was older,
he would return

for me.

I have been to wild–just commented on yours–it moves pretty fast too–seems like a lot want comments, but don’t leave them. Jack has the right idea–if they have the time–sounds good to me. I have been everywhere almost.

ah yes , angels are everywhere…

“hard as diamonds” seems almost or is a cliche. I would pull something else in here–another element from the earth or nature–*hard as a red clay summer*—“soft as rainclouds is wonderful–rainclouds are different than storm clouds–but hard as diamonds is ok for some poets–not you.

The image of the hemp swing–excellent
I am taking the title to be a contract between souls–
    Maybe a break between

    and sat with me there.

“He told me he could throw”

seems a natural place. This poem is a good one–almost seems like you could add some more about Daddy that would come before–.”He told me he could throw” line.
    Whatta think?

  2. you’re so right about the hard as diamonds thing…I’ll see what I can come up with!

I’m glad you liked the hemp swing. Years ago my grandfather worked for a seatbelt and rope factory. They gave him huge roles of hemp rope. He gave them to my Daddy who built a homemade swing set for us kids. Seven swings, seven kids.

I love the idea of the break and you’re absolutely right about the contract between souls.

I will think more on your suggestion about adding more about Daddy…good idea.

    Thank you so very much.

  3. I ran a way from home once. I think I was 35 at the time. I was going to walk to CA from MA. I left with zero in my pocket. I walked through the night (I stopped to stack stones around a reservoir) and was very hungry when I came over a rise and found someone had planted fruit trees along the public way. All I had to do was reach. Later, when I owned a place in the city, I planted fruit trees to hang over the public way.

I followed Ozymandius here through a link on his blog. I’m glad I found you.

  4. Sleepinghill,

First, let me say thanks for visiting me and secondly, I want to tell you that I clicked your link and your art is awesome. I love your use of space and colors.

Thanks for sharing the runaway story. I love that you planted those fruit trees, maybe for fellow travelers. I have a pear tree in my front yard. More than once I’ve looked out to see folks eating them.
